A class of Year Six pupils in Bridgwater have raised £500 as part of a creative fundraiser.

Willowdown Primary School organised the 'Banksy Bakery' fundraiser to help cover the cost of their leavers’ celebration without placing extra financial pressure on families.

The event was the brainchild of assistant headteacher Chantelle May and involved pupils baking and selling 150 cupcakes, with the project also tied into lessons on maths, measurement, and packaging design.

Matt Cave, headteacher at Willowdown Primary School, said: "I could not be more proud of our Year Six children – they really were budding entrepreneurs.
"Thanks to the amazing support and generous donations from parents and the wider school community, the children will leave Willowdown with an incredible party to remember."

The bakery formed part of a wider enterprise week, during which students created and ran their own stalls based on personal interests.

Activities included loom band bracelet making, bookmark sales, football shoot-outs, and a 'guess the teddy’s name' competition.

Prizes, including giant teddy bears, were awarded to top participants.

The entire school took part, with each pupil given a 20-minute slot to enjoy the activities.

Funds raised will go towards outfits for the Year Six leavers’ production, a fish and chip meal, and a water fight featuring paddling pools, water pistols, and balloons.

Mr Cave said: "We always look to make learning meaningful and fun.
"This project combined maths, PSHE, and real-life skills like budgeting, while making sure our leavers get the send-off they deserve."

Willowdown Primary School is part of the Futura Learning Partnership, an academy trust comprising 20 primary and six secondary schools across the South West of England.
