Children’s charity Over The Wall Camp receives ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating
By Charities Correspondent
Children’s charity Over The Wall Camp is celebrating after receiving an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating for its camps for children and young people living with serious health conditions and disabilities.
The rating comes as the charity begins a new chapter, with its first residential camps taking place this summer at its new permanent home in Ockbrook, Derbyshire.
The Ofsted inspector described the camps as “exceptional and transformative”, praising them as safe and inclusive places where children can enjoy new experiences along side others who understand what life with a serious health condition can be like.
Over The Wall Camp offers free week-long and weekend camps to children and young people aged eight to 17 and their families.
Campers can take part in a range of accessible activities, supported by trained staff, volunteers and a specialist medical team. The aim is to give children the chance to try things they may not normally be able to do, make friends and build confidence.

The Ofsted report praised the charity’s “children-first” approach and the relationships between campers and the adults supporting them.
It also found that families recognised the positive difference the camps could make.
One family member told the inspector: “The holiday did so much for my daughter in her week away that she returned more like the child she was before her illness. I’ll be foreverthankful.”
The ‘Outstanding’ rating comes at an exciting time for Over The Wall Camp, as the charity has also opened its new permanent home in Ockbrook.

Kevin Mathieson, Chief Executive of Over The Wall Camp, said the rating was a testament to the dedication of its staff and volunteers, and recognised the difference the camps make to children and families.
Kevin Mathieson, Chief Executive of Over The Wall Camp, said:
“We are absolutely thrilled to receive an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating, and it is particularly special to achievethis at such an exciting time for Over The Wall Camp, as we welcome children and families to our forever home in Ockbrook.”
Applications for children and families to attend Over The Wall Camp in 2027 will open later this autumn.
