Clevedon School Leads the Revival of the North Somerset Debate

Two teams from Clevedon School's Leadership Academy took part in the first North Somerset inter-school parliamentary debate competition since the end of the Covid pandemic.

The debate, hosted by Clevedon School, was chaired by local MP Sadiq Al-Hassan.

Representing the school were Harry Bayliss and Lucas Dancey (pictured above), and Ella Dennes and Alex Curtis, who went through as runners-up in the final.

The debate motion was “Should solar panels and heat pumps be mandated on new builds”.

The arguments were powerful on both sides with the backbenchers raising some very interesting questions as the judges deliberated.

The debate motion was particularly relevant as the Clevedon Student Academy has been researching viable forms of alternative energy.

They are eager to meet Mr Smith, the headteacher, and share their ideas for the new build.
