A paramedic who followed his father into a career with the London Ambulance Service says seeing the difference his dad made to patients inspired him to join the frontline.

Kyle Fisher has worked for the service for eight years, while his father Pete has spent the past 25 years helping care for Londoners in emergencies.

Pete, an Incident Response Officer based at Bow, joined the ambulance service in 2000. His son started as a trainee Emergency Medical Technician in 2017 and is now a paramedic based at Edmonton Ambulance Station.

Kyle said growing up around the job played a major role in his decision to pursue the same career.

Kyle said:

"Growing up it was clear just how much of a difference my dad made in both the lives of his patients and colleagues. This made me want to join the service.
"Some people might find it difficult to work with a close relative, but I have never felt like I am in my dad's shadow. I have been given the opportunities and space to develop into the clinician I am today."

Since joining the service, Kyle has completed an apprenticeship through the University of Cumbria and now works as a paramedic while taking part in a management development placement.

Bristol Neonatal Nurse Raises £60,000 for Cots for Tots Charity
A Bristol neonatal nurse has raised £60,000 for Cots for Tots over 14 years through a hospital knitting stall supporting babies and families.

Among his proudest moments are helping deliver eight babies, including two born in the back of ambulances.

He said: "Being entrusted to support Londoners at their worst moments is a big responsibility, but it brings me enormous pride.
"My proudest moments at the service to date has been delivering eight babies, including two in the back of an ambulance. I also met my partner Elise while working here, so it has been an eventful eight years."

Pete said he was proud to see his son build a career in the ambulance service.

He said: "Kyle had to work extremely hard to get to where he is today. I admire that he was able to juggle studying alongside being a paramedic, which I know from my own experience, isn't easy with the long hours and demands of the job.
"I am very proud of my son and delighted that this Father's Day we can both know that we give our all to caring for people."
