Feltham Good Grub Club brings families together for summer of fun

Families came together for free food, friendship, fun and games at Feltham Salvation Army’s annual Good Grub Club throughout August.
Now in its sixth year, the London-based initiative gives local families the chance to enjoy a free breakfast and a morning of activities together during the school summer holidays.
This year, the club welcomed families to the Southville Centre in Feltham every Thursday morning in August.
Children enjoyed nutritious breakfasts including cereal and fruit before getting stuck into a programme of arts, crafts, colouring and games.
The final week was rounded off with an indoor cinema afternoon, complete with popcorn, where families enjoyed watching Toy Story 5 together.
There was something for parents and carers too, with a lunch stall running each week offering free essentials such as pasta, bread and tinned food to take home.
The Good Grub Club is led by Feltham Salvation Army officer James Pegg and his wife, Sophie, The Salvation Army West London Children & Family Worker, alongside a team of dedicated volunteers.
For many families, the club has become a much-loved part of the summer, offering a welcoming place to spend time together and make new friends.
Christina, a full-time mother of two boys aged 10 and 11, has been part of the Feltham Salvation Army community for five years. Her children, who are both autistic, particularly enjoy the activities and the opportunity to spend time with other families.

Christina said: “The Good Grub Club is a godsend, it’s amazing. Both my sons and I have made friends here and they really enjoy coming in. There’s always a lovely warm atmosphere; it feels a bit like a family.
“We always feel welcome when we come in. We look forward to coming in every week and seeing James and the volunteers here, it makes such a difference in our lives to have somewhere like this.”
The Good Grub Club is part of the wider programme of activities at Feltham Salvation Army, which aims to bring people together and provide practical and pastoral support throughout the year.
James said: “It was lovely to see so many families come together each week and enjoy the activities at the Good Grub Club.
