John Lewis Partnership to create more than 10,400 seasonal jobs across UK
By Business Correspondent
More than 10,400 seasonal jobs are being created by the John Lewis Partnership as it prepares for its busiest trading period of the year.
The roles will be available across the UK, including 6,000 positions at Waitrose, 2,600 at John Lewis shops and 1,800 across distribution centres and the supply chain.
The retailer says the jobs are open to people of all ages and backgrounds, with previous years showing that around three quarters of seasonal recruits were under 25.
The opportunities will offer young people the chance to gain valuable workplace experience and develop skills that could help them start a long-term career.
Pay starts at £13 an hour outside London and £14.55 in London, rising after 30 days to £13.25 and £14.80 respectively. Successful applicants will also receive training and access to flexible working options.
The Partnership is also expanding opportunities for young people who have experienced the care system.
As part of its Building Happier Futures programme, it expects to recruit 100 care-experienced young people this year, while offering welcome visits and job-shadowing placements.
Anyone completing a job-shadowing placement will receive a guaranteed interview.

Helen Webb, Chief People Officer at the John Lewis Partnership, said the seasonal roles could be “a catalyst for building confidence and kickstarting a long-term career”.
The recruitment drive comes ahead of the retail ‘golden quarter’, which includes Black Friday, Christmas and the January sales.
Seasonal vacancies will go live this month, with candidates able to register their interest and sign up for job alerts through the John Lewis Partnership careers website.
