King’s Lynn Pizza Maker Wins Best Margherita in the UK

A Gaywood pizza maker is celebrating after being crowned the winner of Best Margherita at the UK Pizza Championship 2026.
Danny Child, who runs The Pizza Slice Guy with his wife Lucy, won the People’s Choice award after his Margherita was voted the favourite at the national competition.
The win is the latest achievement for a business which started with a simple idea – to bring the authentic New York-style pizza Danny and Lucy had fallen in love with back home to King’s Lynn.
The couple first discovered New York-style pizza during a trip to the USA in 2017.
Two years later, while on their honeymoon, they returned with a plan to learn as much as they could about making it themselves.

They visited Pizza School NYC and spent time learning from experienced pizza makers before returning to King’s Lynn and starting work on their own pizza truck.
What began as a family project quickly became a growing business.
Danny and Lucy wanted to create something that would allow them to work together and spend more time as a family, and they transformed a white work van from scratch into the distinctive Pizza Slice Guy truck.
Since then, the business has become a familiar name at events and private parties across Norfolk.
Danny has also taken his pizzas further afield, competing in international competitions including the World Pizza Championships in Las Vegas.
Now he can add a UK championship title to the list.

For Danny, however, it is the fact that the winning pizza was chosen by the public that makes the award particularly special.
“Winning Best Margherita is an incredible feeling,” he said. “We have put so much time, effort and love into our pizzas over the years, so to have people taste our Margherita and then choose it as their favourite is incredibly special.”

He said the couple never expected their original idea to lead to a national title.
“When we started this journey, we had a dream of bringing the kind of New York pizza we loved in America back to King’s Lynn. We never imagined that one day we would be celebrating a national championship title.”
Danny said winning a People’s Choice award made the moment even more meaningful.
“Pizza is ultimately about making people happy, and having customers choose our Margherita means more to us than we can really put into words.”
The couple are also proud that their business has remained rooted in Gaywood and West Norfolk.
“We are incredibly proud to be based in Gaywood and West Norfolk,” Danny said. “The support we have received locally has helped us build this business, and this award feels like something we can celebrate with everyone who has supported us along the way.”
The national title is another milestone in what has been a remarkable journey for the family business – but Danny says they are not planning to rest on their success.
“We are always looking at how we can make the next pizza better,” he said.
“Hopefully this gives people an even bigger reason to come and try what we do – but we will never stop trying to improve.”
