Bristol Airport will have a new direct link to Frankfurt from next May, giving travellers across the South West another route into Germany and onward to destinations around the world.

Discover Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, will operate twice-weekly flights between Bristol and Frankfurt from May 2027.

The service will run on Mondays and Thursdays, offering an option for weekend breaks, longer holidays and business trips.

The new route will also give passengers access to Frankfurt’s extensive air network, with onward connections through Lufthansa to more than 150 destinations worldwide.

It will be Discover Airlines’ first destination in England.

Marco Götz, Chief Commercial Officer at Discover Airlines, said Bristol was a natural fit for the airline as demand grows for destinations combining culture, nature and outdoor experiences.

The new service is also expected to make it easier for visitors from Germany to reach Bristol, Bath and other parts of the South West.

Visit West, which promotes tourism across the region, said Germany was already an important market for visitors and that the new connection could provide a boost for local businesses.

Kathryn Davis, Chief Executive of Visit West, said:

“We know that there is already strong demand from German visitors to experience the best of Bristol, Bath and the region, and this will be a boost for our visitor economy.”

The route could also strengthen links between businesses in the South West and Germany, while making it easier for companies to connect with customers and markets further afield.

Rupert Lawrie, Commercial Director at Bristol Airport, said the new service would add to existing connections with Germany and Switzerland.

He said the Frankfurt route would be suitable for everything from a short break to a longer trip, with the city providing connections across Europe and beyond.

Frankfurt itself offers a mix of historic architecture and modern skyscrapers, alongside museums, restaurants and green spaces. It also provides access to attractions including the Rhine Valley.

The new flights are due to begin in May 2027, subject to the usual operational arrangements.
