Ettlingen Students Visit Clevedon School (By Meg and Faith, Year 8)

Ettlingen is Clevedon's twin town.
During their visit to Clevedon, we met our student partners from two schools in Ettlingen. They were also in Year 8, just like us.
We wanted to build friendships and learn about each other's culture. To give them a taste of life at our school, we asked Mr Watson to put on a special science lesson for us.
The science lesson was great fun.
We worked with our new friends to learn how and why different chemicals react when they are mixed together. We saw strange popping sounds, green foam and even fire!
The photo on the screen shows what happens when you ignite a bubble filled with methane. It was really exciting, although admittedly a bit smelly!
After break, we baked scones.
We had lots of disagreements about how to pronounce the word 'scone', as well as whether the jam or the clotted cream should go on first.
I'm not sure what our German guests thought about all our debates, but we all happily enjoyed eating the scones together in the afternoon.
Creating poems in the afternoon was also a lot of fun.

We learned about concrete poetry by cutting up words from famous traditional poems and rearranging them to create our own verses.
We thought about our connection to nature and each other while writing. My favourite line we created was: "The sun glistens, shining on vanishing clouds."
