The man behind a growing “good news” movement is now helping business leaders, entrepreneurs and community figures uncover their own hidden stories—and use them to reach new audiences, attract more customers and grow their organisations.

Shane Dean, an award-winning former journalist, will host a seminar on Friday 1 May titled Find Your Story. Get Seen. Grow Faster., designed to help people identify and share the stories that can transform how they are seen, increase their visibility and bring new opportunities to their businesses.

The half-day event runs from 9.30am to 12.30pm at the Campus Conference and community Centre in Locking Castle Worle, just off the M5, and includes networking over fresh sandwiches, grapes, coffee and chocolate.

Shane first launched his “Good News Room” concept in 2011 from a headteacher’s office at Priory School in Weston-super-Mare, training young people to produce real, positive news stories.

The initiative has since expanded across the UK and internationally, including projects in Malawi.

But his path into the work was anything but conventional.

Originally a successful journalist with ambitions of working in major international newsrooms, Shane’s career took an unexpected turn after interviewing a church leader.

“I ended up becoming a vicar completely by accident,” he says. “It was never part of the plan—I just loved journalism and thought I’d always be in newsrooms.”

After several years leading a church, he stepped away following burnout and found himself drawn back to his original passion—storytelling and communication.

“I really missed journalism—the people, the energy, the stories,” he says. “That’s when I realised how powerful storytelling really is—especially for businesses that want to stand out and connect with more customers.”

Now, through his seminars, Shane is focused on helping others unlock that same power of story and turn it into something practical that helps them get noticed, build trust and grow.

“I believe there are incredible hidden stories all around us that never get told,” he says. “If more people could find and share those stories, we could flood the media with more positive stories. It would certainly boost businesses to get more clients and customers, and organisations and charities to make people more aware.”

The Find Your Story. Get Seen. Grow Faster. seminar takes place on Friday 1 May, from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Spaces are limited and early booking is recommended.
