Manchester Museum Tops Visitor Rankings Again with Strong Growth
By Culture Correspondent
Manchester Museum has once again been named the most popular attraction in Greater Manchester, marking its third consecutive year at the top, according to newly released data from the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA).
In 2025, the museum recorded 648,595 visitors, continuing to stand out despite a broader drop in attendance across many cultural sites since 2019.
Over that period, Manchester Museum has seen a significant 76% rise in visitor numbers, contrasting with an overall decline of 7% among ALVA member locations.
Across all 409 ALVA sites, total visits reached 165 million in 2025, reflecting a modest 2% increase compared to the previous year.
The museum’s continued success follows its reopening in February 2023 after a £15 million transformation.
Growth has been supported by new gallery spaces, engaging exhibitions like The Cat That Slept for a Thousand Years, a varied events programme, and strong connections with schools throughout Greater Manchester.
