The Natural History Museum has become the UK’s most visited attraction after welcoming a record-breaking 7.1 million visitors in 2025.
The South Kensington museum saw visitor numbers rise by 13% compared with the previous year, making it the highest attendance ever recorded for a UK museum or gallery.
The figures, released by the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA), showed the museum far outperformed the average UK attraction, which saw a 2% increase in visitors.
Museum director Dr Doug Gurr said:
“We are thrilled to be the UK’s most popular visitor attraction, smashing all previous records for the sector.
“These exceptional results reflect our unwavering focus on delivering a fantastic day out for every visitor.”
More than five million people visited the museum’s transformed gardens in 2025, while its new Fixing Our Broken Planet gallery attracted over two million visitors after opening in April.
Other popular attractions included the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition and the immersive experience Our Story with David Attenborough.

The museum is also planning major expansion work as part of its NHM150 project, which will see new galleries opening every year until its 150th anniversary in 2031.
