New App Library Aims to Help People with Cancer Find Trusted Support
By Health Correspondent
People living with cancer now have a new way to find health apps that have been independently checked for safety and quality, following the launch of an online library by Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Macmillan App Library brings together apps that have all been independently assessed for clinical safety, usability, privacy and security by ORCHA (the Organisation for the Review of Care and Health Apps).
It includes apps covering different stages of cancer care, from diagnosis and treatment through to ongoing support.
Alongside cancer-specific apps, the library also features apps to help people manage sleep, pain, anxiety and some of the everyday challenges that can come with living with cancer.
Dr Anthony Cunliffe, Lead Medical Adviser at Macmillan Cancer Support, said many people already use apps to help manage their health but can find it difficult to know which ones they can trust.
"People living with cancer are increasingly turning to apps to help them manage their health, find information and feel less alone. What's been missing is a reliable way to know which tools are actually safe and worth their time.
"This library gives people living with cancer exactly that: a trusted starting point, backed by independent assessment, so they can focus on what matters."
Every app in the library has been reviewed by ORCHA, so users can be confident it has been independently assessed for clinical safety, usability, privacy and security.

Liz Ashall-Payne, Founder of ORCHA, said:
"Digital health has enormous potential to support people living with cancer, but only when they can trust that the tools they're using are safe and effective. We're proud to work with Macmillan to put quality-assured digital health in the hands of people who need it."
The library is free to use and available to anyone living with cancer in the UK who wants additional support alongside the care they receive from healthcare professionals.
Macmillan hopes the library will make it easier for people to choose reliable apps, giving them greater confidence in the digital support available alongside their cancer care.
