School Murder Mystery Put a Twist on World Book Day (By Ben and Tilda, Year 12)

As part of the Clevedon School after-school Creative Writing A Level group, we are always looking for new ways to encourage students to enjoy reading and writing.
Earlier this year, we came up with the idea of creating a whole-school murder mystery for World Book Day.
We recruited Heads of House, senior leaders and staff to become our Cluedo-style characters.
Throughout the week, we released new clues about who the murderer might be. We also included plenty of red herrings because we didn't want to make it too easy.
The mystery began on the first day of the week when the "victim" turned out to be our very own headteacher, Mr Smith. We sealed off the library with police tape and even put a body outline on the floor.

We then invited all the suspects to the library, along with some very keen student detectives, to uncover the motive, the murder weapon and, of course, the murderer.
No one suspected Mr "Burgundy" Blake, our Head of Sixth Form, even though he had been carrying the murder weapon around all week in his briefcase!
The event was a great way to celebrate World Book Day, and we hope it encouraged more students to enjoy reading, storytelling and solving mysteries.
We're already thinking about how we could make it even bigger in the future.
