Volunteers brighten up Nuneaton station with summer displays

Nuneaton railway station has been given a colourful summer makeover thanks to a team of dedicated volunteers.

The Friends of Nuneaton Station adopter group has been busy planting new flower displays across the platforms, adding a splash of colour for passengers to enjoy.

The makeover includes new planters, hanging baskets and some unusual features, including a miniature cast stone steam engine and a novelty pirate’s chest.

The volunteers have been working in the warm weather to plant and maintain the flowerbeds as part of the station adopter scheme run by London Northwestern Railway.

Station adopters volunteer their time to help look after their local stations, with projects ranging from gardening and painting to installing artwork and information boards.

Shantel Carty, community engagement manager at London Northwestern Railway, said:

“The new displays in Nuneaton are absolutely wonderful. Even when faced with the hot weather, our station adopters have done a fantastic job of re-planting and maintaining the flowerbeds, and there’s more to come, with even more planters ready to be installed soon.”

The scheme has more than 440 volunteers helping to look after 155 stations across the London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway networks.
