Bristol Airport has awarded £12,000 to Wrington Community Minibus, helping the charity replace its ageing vehicle with a new, fully accessible minibus.

The volunteer-run group, which marks its 50th anniversary next year, provides transport for shopping trips, social outings and Wrington’s weekly Lunch Club.

Last year, it ran 146 trips carrying more than 1,100 passengers, the majority aged over 60.

The current 12-year-old vehicle no longer meets Bristol’s Clean Air Zone standards, restricting routes into the city. The new Euro 6 compliant minibus will allow the charity to restore and expand its full programme of excursions.

Adrian Hopkins, Chair of the Trustees, thanked supporters for enabling the service to continue, noting that all drivers and administrators volunteer their time.

Tracy Comer, Community Relations Manager at Bristol Airport, said the grant would make a “tangible difference”, describing the minibus as a lifeline for many local residents.

The funding comes from Bristol Airport’s Local Community Fund, which distributes £100,000 annually to projects supporting local communities and the environment.
