Ana Corina Sosa, the daughter of previous Nobel Peace Prize winner, María Corina Machado, has said she is determined to live in a free Venezuela and will “never give up on that purpose” when she accepted her mother’s award.

The Venezuelan opposition leader was “safe” and will travel to Oslo, according to the Nobel Institute, but they were unable to attend the awards ceremony scheduled for 12pm on Wednesday 10th of December.

Ana Corina Sosa accepted the award on behalf of her mother and did a lecture written by her mother at the ceremony in Oslo City Hall.

Machado was awarded her prize for “her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy” by the Nobel Institute in Venezuela.

Machado went into hiding soon after Venezuela’s presidential election in July 2024.
