Dramatic Delivery to Joyful Reunion: Baby Luca Meets London Ambulance Service Crew
By Community Correspondent
A grateful family has visited the London Ambulance Service crew who helped to deliver baby Luca in the back of an ambulance.
Proud parents Shilpa and Joseph revealed that Luca’s birth certificate even notes he was born in an ambulance on the way to hospital.
Shilpa hadn’t planned a home birth but while getting ready to take her daughter to school, she suddenly felt a strong urge to push.
Two ambulance crews and a paramedic in a fast response car responded to her 999 call.
After assessing Shilpa, the team decided to get her to hospital as quickly as possible.
But Luca had other plans.
Just minutes into the journey, the ambulance had to stop. And soon after Luca was born, weighing 8lb 10oz.
Shilpa said: “He was born in the back of the ambulance parked by a roundabout in Romford – definitely not where we had planned!
“It was an unforgettable and emotional experience and I am so thankful for the calmness, skill and kindness shown by everyone throughout such a special – and rather dramatic – moment.
“I am deeply grateful to the incredible crew who cared for me and my baby.”
Paramedics George Suttle and Molly Hall and Emergency Medical Technician Craig Scott were delighted to meet Luca – who’s now six-months-old – and see him thriving at a joyful reunion at Ilford Ambulance Station, in east London.
Molly said: “It was very special to meet little Luca again! Obviously when we last met, things were quite intense. To have this lovely family visit us at our station and getting a proper cuddle with Luca has made my day!”
Craig said: “Shilpa and Luca are both doing so well. We rarely get to know what happens to our patients after taking them to hospital but we loved their visit – it reminds us why we do this job.”
George said: “Being there for such an important moment is something I'll always remember.
“We gave Luca his first ride in the ambulance and it’s lovely to see him now as a happy and healthy baby."
