M&S Launches Fibre Campaign to Encourage More People to Eat Beans and Pulses
By Health Correspondent
Marks & Spencer has launched a summer campaign aimed at encouraging people to eat more fibre by making beans and pulses easier to add to everyday meals.
The Better with Beans campaign, running until 31 August, is being delivered in partnership with Bowel Cancer UK and includes recipe ideas, expert advice and a refreshed range of M&S beans and pulses.
More than 96% of people in the UK are not eating enough fibre, despite higher-fibre diets being linked with a reduced risk of bowel cancer.
Beans and pulses are naturally high in fibre, provide plant-based protein and can be used in a wide range of meals, including curries, salads, soups, pasta dishes and traybakes. However, they remain an under-used store cupboard ingredient in many UK households.
As part of the campaign, M&S has updated its beans and pulses range with new recipes, clearer health messaging and a new glass jar format across selected products.

Prices start at 55p for items including chickpeas, green lentils, butter beans and kidney beans.
Grace Ricotti, Head of Nutrition at M&S Food, said the campaign was designed to help customers understand the role fibre plays in a healthy diet.
She said: “Beans and pulses are naturally high in fibre, affordable, versatile and easy to add to everyday meals — but as a nation we still don’t eat enough of them.
“By transforming our range, sharing simple recipe inspiration and partnering with Bowel Cancer UK, we want to make it easier for customers to understand fibre and enjoy more of it, more often.”
Dr Claire Coughlan, Clinical Lead at Bowel Cancer UK, said increasing fibre intake was one way people could help reduce their risk of bowel cancer.
She said: “Small swaps can have a big impact, and we hope this campaign gives more people the inspiration to boost their fibre intake and take a positive step for their health.”
M&S is also calling for clearer fibre labelling on food products to help customers better understand the role fibre can play in a healthy diet.
The campaign will run throughout July and August, with activity in M&S stores and online, including recipe inspiration, nutrition content and information about the retailer’s donation to Bowel Cancer UK.
