Walliscote Primary School in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, was filled with excitement as pupils, families, staff, and special guests gathered for a vibrant whole-school Eid celebration.
The event brought together the entire school community, reflecting the rich cultural diversity that makes the school so special—including a remarkable 47 different languages spoken among its families.

The Mayor of Weston-super-Mare, Martin Williams, and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Denis Burn, joined students and staff for the celebration.
The school celebrates all kinds of traditions and key celebrations all together.
At Christmas, pupils also took part in a special service at nearby St Paul’s Church, attended by the Lord Lieutenant Mohammed Saddiq.

Headteacher Shelley Flanagan said:
“Our Eid celebration is a wonderful way to bring our whole school together.
“With 47 languages spoken across our community, events like this are so important in helping our children learn from one another and feel a true sense of belonging, respect, and joy.
“We are incredibly proud of our community and hope to make this an annual celebration of our shared cultures and traditions.”
The evening featured a wide range of activities, including henna art, Eid-themed crafts for all ages, and a welcoming space where families could enjoy reading Eid stories together.
Food was a highlight of the celebration, with delicious curry dishes provided by local takeaway Poppadoms, alongside contributions from Aishah’s Food Charity and a generous bring-and-share table organised by families.
Together, these created a rich and varied culinary experience that reflected the school’s multicultural community.
The school’s new Jill Dando News reporters, based in the Good News Room, played an important role in capturing the event.

Working in partnership with The Good News Post, the young journalists covered their first live event, taking photographs and conducting interviews to help tell the story of the evening.
