North Somerset Libraries Invite Readers to Discover the Stories Behind Sport
By Community Correspondent
North Somerset Libraries are encouraging people to make time for a good book this summer as part of the National Year of Reading 2026.
The campaign aims to inspire more people to discover the pleasure of reading, whether they're lifelong book lovers or haven't visited a library for years.
With a summer of major sporting events taking place, libraries are also shining a spotlight on books that tell the stories behind some of the world's biggest sporting stars and competitions.
From football and tennis to cricket, athletics and Formula One, there are titles exploring the dedication, setbacks and successes behind the headlines.
As well as sport, libraries are showcasing books on history, wellbeing, adventure and fiction, with reading recommendations and themed displays throughout the summer.

Library members can also reserve books from libraries across the South West, giving them access to thousands more titles.
Those who prefer reading or listening on the move can borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks through the BorrowBox app.
The Summer Reading Challenge has also returned for children aged up to 11.
This year's theme, Read to the Beat, celebrates the connection between stories and music and encourages children to keep reading during the school holidays.

Families can sign up at their local library, where activities and events will be running throughout the summer.
Whether you're looking for the story behind your favourite sporting hero or simply searching for your next great read, North Somerset Libraries hope this summer will encourage more people to discover everything their local library has to offer.
