Three Lions Show Their Character to Reach Last Eight

Three Lions Show Their Character to Reach Last Eight

By Sports Correspondent

England manager Thomas Tuchel has praised his players after the Three Lions battled past Mexico to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.

England beat the tournament co-hosts 3-2 after playing much of the second half with 10 men following Jarell Quansah's red card. Jude Bellingham scored twice before Harry Kane added England's third from the penalty spot as Tuchel's side booked a last-eight meeting with Norway.

Speaking to England Football after the match, Tuchel admitted it had been a demanding night but said his players had shown the character needed to get the job done.

"I am very proud," he said.
"We needed everything. It was super difficult.
"This team really mean it. When the going gets tough, they never give up, they never lose belief."

Tuchel also believes England can still improve as the tournament progresses.

England Women’s cricketers visited Battersea during a break from the T20 World Cup, meeting rescue dogs and cats ahead of the semi-final.

Speaking in his post-match interview with England Football, he said:

"I think we can play much better.
"There's still a disconnect from us and the best version of us that I see, to what we actually put on the pitch.
"There's no disconnect in commitment and doing what is needed to overcome anything that is thrown at this team."

England now face Norway in the quarter-finals on Saturday after the Scandinavians' surprise victory over Brazil.

Attention now turns to Norway, with a place in the semi-finals at stake. England showed plenty of character to get past Mexico and will hope that fighting spirit can carry them one step further.
