Budding Martin Tyler little Oliver, 7, gets top tips from BBC Radio 5 live football commentator.

Little Oliver is only seven years old, but is already is a budding Martin Tyler.

He has been given top tips from current BBC Radio Five Live football commentator Sheridan Robins.

Oliver is a student at St Anne’s Church Academy in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset and part of his school’s Jill Dando News Centre.

The iconic Martin Tyler, 78, is still commentating and is known as the voice of the Premier League. 

Since leaving the Weston Mercury a few years ago, Sheridan has become one of the best young football commentators in Britain, taking on a new role as Radio 5 live commentator earlier this year.

After interviewing Sheridan, Oliver is hoping to report on a top Premier League game in the months to come.

Jill Dando was also a top name in the BBC after leaving the Weston Mercury. Now hundreds of young people have been trained in Jill Dando News which takes children up to the age of 18 and inspires and trains them as journalists.

Mum Sarah said. “Oliver is obsessed with football. He knows all the statistics and talks about it all the time.

“Being a football commentator would be his dream job.”

It’s not the first time a student at St Anne’s has achieved a dream very early on.

Elijah aged 9 turned out for Jill Dando News to interview Boris Johnson inside Downing Street in August 2019 along with several other young journalists on the scheme.
