Cambridge Cyrenians’ Allotment Offers Lifeline and Community for People Facing Homelessness
By Community Correspondent
Cambridge Cyrenians’ six-plot community allotment is far more than just a green space.
Twice a week, people who have experienced, are facing, or are vulnerable to homelessness come together to plant produce, share food and stories, learn new skills, and build friendships.

Nestled in the heart of Cambridge, the allotment operates on a therapeutic horticulture model, offering participants a space for calm, reflection, and personal growth.

Kevin Walshe, Allotment Co-Ordinator at Cambridge Cyrenians, said:
"Our allotment is a safe and welcoming space. Twice-weekly sessions give people the chance to enjoy nature, connect with others, and find peace away from the pressures of daily life."
The sessions foster confidence, wellbeing, and a sense of belonging, making the allotment a lifeline for many.

To keep this vital space running, Cambridge Cyrenians is inviting the community to support its Christmas appeal, aiming to raise £4,000.
Funds will help cover seeds, tools, materials, travel costs, and educational workshops, ensuring the allotment remains accessible and welcoming all year round.
Supporters can donate via the Christmas appeal page here or get involved in fundraising activities with local businesses, schools, faith groups, and community organisations.
