People Invited to Join Britain's First Mass Nature Bathing Event at Somerset Rewilding Site
By Nature Correspondent
Hundreds of people are expected to gather in Somerset this summer for what is believed to be Britain's first mass nature bathing event at a rewilding site.
The free event, called The Great Pause, will take place at Heal Somerset, near Frome, on Sunday, July 19, inviting people of all ages to spend time immersed in nature during a shared period of silence.
Instead of guided walks or organised activities, participants will simply lie on blankets surrounded by birdsong, wildflowers and recovering habitats, taking time to slow down and enjoy the landscape around them.
Organisers at Heal Rewilding believe it will be the first large-scale nature bathing event held on a UK rewilding site, bringing together large numbers of people for a collective moment of stillness.

Participants will be asked to switch off their phones before looking up at the sky or closing their eyes to listen to the sounds of wildlife in the recovering landscape.

Jan Stannard, co-founder of Heal Rewilding, said:
"Research shows that spending time in nature can reduce stress, ease anxiety and improve wellbeing, yet many of us rarely stop long enough to fully experience it.
"'The Great Pause' is about creating a shared moment of calm where people can reconnect with nature and each other while enjoying a landscape that is being restored for wildlife."
Separate spaces will be available for families with children and for adults and young people aged 14 and over who are looking for a quieter experience.

The event is free to attend, although organisers are inviting visitors to make a voluntary £10 donation towards Heal Rewilding's work.
Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket and a picnic, while camping will also be available for those wishing to extend their stay at the Somerset site.
