Ice Cream, Ice Cream – We All Scream for... Teachers!

June 17 marked National Thank a Teacher Day, an annual event celebrating the hard work and dedication of school staff.

At Priory Community School, where more than 200 staff work across the site, Headteacher Angelos Markoutsas wanted to mark the occasion by recognising their commitment to the school.

How did they decide to do this? By paying for all 200-plus staff to receive an ice cream!

Mr Markoutsas emailed staff at the close of the school day to say:

“THANK YOU to you all. I have arranged a small treat at 3.30pm in the main car park. Please get there in time and treat yourselves.”

The queue grew and was joined by members of the Jill Dando News Team and several Duke of Edinburgh participants, who were keen to enjoy the ice creams too.

North Somerset Youth Parliament has discussed how schools can help young people feel confident and informed about voting.

A range of ice creams to suit all tastes was handed out free of charge to teachers by Millard's Ice Cream, a family-run outdoor catering firm based in Somerset.

Teachers had smiles on their faces despite the light rain and were grateful to be recognised.

One commented:What a lovely way to end the day!
